Meet The Cavitts…

Dave and Rachel Cavitt are truly the "First Family” of Alaska furniture stores. Their company, Furniture Enterprises of Alaska, was built from one store at a time into their current 13 store group.

Dave started his career in home furnishings in 1975 as the first employee of Sadler's Furniture. He was a delivery man, salesperson, manager; learning the business from the ground up. He eventually became a partner in Sadler's. During this time, Rachel was in airline management, marketing and sales. In 1988, Rachel and Dave purchased Sadler's.

While the Cavitt's were growing Sadler's, they saw the need for a higher end store that would specialize in made to order furniture and interior design. In 1992, they opened Williams and Kay. The next to open was Alaska’s only La Z Boy store.

And in 1995 they believed Alaska should have a mattress store that featured luxury level mattresses so they opened The Ultimate Mattress store. In the next several years Ashley Home Store in Anchorage and in Fairbanks were opened. The Cavitt's became the Alaska franchise for Mattress Firm in 2016 opening four locations.

Dave, Rachel and their buying teams shop every major furniture market in the U.S. and travel internationally to Europe, China, Vietnam, and Mexico to find products for Alaskans.

The Cavitts are active members in several home furnishings organizations and have been recognized as industry leaders. They also support many local charities.

FEA's History

Sadler’s has been serving Alaskans since 1972. As with many Alaskan owned businesses, Sadler’s started very small withone tiny store in Chugiak. Due to a continued commitment in customer satisfaction, Sadler’s has grown from those humble beginnings into the largest retailer of home furnishings in Alaska.

Dave Cavitt, President and owner, started in 1975 and helped open the Sadler’s stores in Sterling and Fairbanks and to move from the original Chugiak location to Anchorage. In 1989, theCavitt’s purchased Sadler’s from the original owners.

During the 1990’s, the Cavitts began an energetic revitalization of Sadler’s and implemented customer research, educational programs for employees and many other state-wide systems which led to Sadler’s years of growth.

FEA's Future

We are proud to be 100% Alaskan owned. Many newcomers to Alaska think we are part of a national chain. We’re not of course, but we strive to be a truly great furniture store. Not just by Alaskan standards – but compared to any furniture store in America.

Our focus is “ONLY ON HOME FURNISHINGS – ONLY IN ALASKA.” We carefully listen to the needs of our customers and strive to bring them the furniture they desire at a fair price. We continue to serve our customers just like they were our neighbors – because they are!
